Quilts have been around for centuries.  No one knows for sure when quilting started, but the earliest recorded quilted garment was found on a carved ivory figure of an Egyptian pharaoh from the first dynasty and is thought to be from about 3400 BC.  Records indicate that quilts have been in use in one form or another in all parts of the world since the 11th century.

The very first quilts were probably layers of cloth sewn together with a few strong running stitches.  These primitive quilts resembled the thick and cumbersome pallets upon which the people slept. Because of the difficulty involved in stitching the many layers together invention of the quilting frame probably came about.  Another advantage to the quilting frame was that it allowed for finer stitches and more decorative designs.

The 1800s were a great quilt age in Europe and America.  It was a time of quilting-bees, when the rural population would gather together and make one or more quilts in an afternoon.

Today, quilts are a part of almost every household.  They are no longer just a piece of bedding, but items used in home improvement projects to give the house an entirely different look and feel.

I, like many other quilters, started making quilts as gifts for family and friends. Through the years, I have been asked by different people to make them a special quilt. I still do so whenever I feel I can, but health issues often prevent me from doing so. If you have a special quilt you would like made, contact me and I will let you know if it is possible and the cost.
